June 9th to June 14th, 2018, Leh, Ladakh

The land of Lamas, Lakes and powerful Himalayas. The valley of Ladakh will be the backdrop of this 5-day workshop with Raghu Rai and his team. Amid the scenic beauty of this pristine land, participants will be guided in the discipline of responding creatively to daily life in the Himalays and the powerful landscape that keeps changing at every turn. Some of the sites to be covered during the workshop include Leh Palace, Tsemo Temple, Samkar Gonpa, Leh Market and Shanti Stupa. But the most amazing experience shall come when we shall travel 120 kms towards Kargil to reach Lamayuru, perched on a mud hill surrounded by rugged mountains where a Yuru festival shall allow us to experience some of the very intimate Buddhist rituals and practices. It’s like going back in time by a few centuries, which is going to be a photographers delight.

The objective of this workshop is to create stories that are beyond the ordinary and serve as a personal memoir for each participant and their understanding of Ladakh. You can later convert it into your own little book on Himalayan experience.

Here is your chance to be part of an extraordinary photography experience with Raghu Rai, India’s first Magnum photographer and Editorial Director of Creative IMAGE Magazine.

Every evening, after the shoot, there will be an editing exercise to pick up five best images of the day. The last day (fifth day), shall be the day of final structuring of selected images into a little booklet of what you have experienced and visualized during this workshop.

As part of the educational program organised by Raghu Rai Foundation for Arts & Photography and Creative IMAGE, we are proud to announce an exclusive 5-day photography workshop.

During 5 extraordinary days, Rai will lead the group through a daily program of shooting, reviews, group discussion, mentoring, editing, and advise on how to shape your shooting into a photo story / photographic project.

Creative Explorations with Raghu Rai are aimed at photographers interested in narrative and storytelling, who are looking to take the next logical step in their photographic development.

Each participant will be assigned to the situations best suited as per their caliber for the duration of the workshop, with informal time available to crossover.

Over 4 days, participants will divide their time between shooting new work, critiquing their photographs with Mr. Rai and peers and creating an edit to be shown the culminating workshop projection.

After the workshop participants will be invited to submit an edit of photographs for Creative Image blog. Each participant will be published each day on the blog with his narrative and testimonial.
